Developing the essential learning practices of deep understanding and inquiry is attended to on a number of levels.
Through classroom Inquiry Learning units students undertake specific investigations that build knowledge of given topics while at the same time expanding their ability to gather, process and make thoughtful use of information. Inquiry learning units aim to equip the students to be active participants in their world.
An ‘inquiry’ approach is also incorporated into many other aspects of our learning programs through a focus on the thinking required to achieve the intended learning outcomes. Children utilize a variety of strategies and thinking tools to advance their learning capabilities. The ultimate success of inquiry learning is seen when students apply skills they have learnt in new or less familiar settings.
An inquiry approach to learning encourages active citizenship which is key focus of our environmental education programs. Considering new learning, deciding on a course of action and then making a plan to implement that action makes the learning cycle complete.
